HG Racing’s strongest asset is the 40 years of experience that Harold, Linda, and Lana Grubb bring to the horse racing stable. Currently racing in New Mexico, We are running horses at Sunland Park, Albuquerque, and Farmington. Although, thoroughbreds are the main stay, the quarter horses continue to pull their weight in wins and money earned. Harold began his career working with horses at a very young age in Eureka, KS. “Walking hots” as it was called before the invention of mechanical horse walkers. He broke and trained horses for ranchers in Tarkio, MO, Glen Elder, KS, and Crookston, NE. He was running horses from OK to Park Jefferson, SD In the days when winning a race meant your picture taken with as many people as you could get in the winners circle and after buying the picture, everyone going to the local VFW for dinner and dancing, "you ended up losing money". But it was the love of watching the horse run, the way of life at the track, and the dreams that keeps a 40 year career in existence.
In recent years, Lana Grubb has handled the reins and enjoyed success with Killer Looks, winning the 2002 Rocky Mountain Futurity, $114,000 "shown on the home page banner"; Roma Ryan, $67,000; Dashing Ace JR, $120,000; and winning numerous other races. In the past year, the stable has conditioned many young thoroughbreds and watched Spirit Gulch recently win his maiden race at Sunland Park running 6 furlongs in 1:10.43. He has the desire and ability to develop into a major contender in 2004. Another young horse to watch for in 2004 is a filly named Hennessyalate. She and Spirit are owned by Allen Kincaid and Kent Banford of Parker, CO. Although many horses have passed through the years since Harold and Linda started, it is horses like Bald Whistle, Ceasars Special, Miss Flamin’ Cash Bid, and Super Showgirl that made racing an enjoyable business to be in. Horse racing has changed dramatically in 40 years. Golf carts, cell phones, and web sites are now as much a part of stables as the wheelbarrows and shaving forks. The one thing that has not and will never change is the horse. Their love for racing can be seen in their prance after winning, the glint in their eyes as they wait to be tacked in the mornings, and their knickers as their favorite person approaches.
They are pampered and treated like they belong to a King and Queen and they respond by giving their all. "Trainers do not make a horse fast, they only give them a chance to reach their potential".
